Junichi grew up in a poor household. He was usually under his mother's care while his father worked odd jobs people would give him, to support his family. For a while they lived happily together but the strain of having an extra mouth to feed eventually proved to be too much for the Shimuras. Eventually his parents began to resent Junichi's presence, and took their financial frustrations out on their helpless son.

Afraid of any negative repercussions and blaming himself for the cruel mistreatment Junichi began to hide the truth and withdrew himself from everyone at school. He soon found himself totally isolated, and friendless within school. It's not until his high school years that he befriends both Shin Magaki and Natsumi Miwa. The three are inseparable, and it was thanks to them that Junichi found the courage to leave his abusive home.

His happiness didn't last when news of Shin and Natsumi found dead in an alleyway soon reached Junichi. The two had fallen victim to an unfortunate case of a mugging. Heartbroken by the loss of his closest friends Junichi swore to himself he'd prevent anyone else from going through the same pain as he has. From there he decided to become an officer of the law as his desire to protect the innocent was strong within himself.

Despite all his hardships in life, or maybe because of it Junichi has grown into a man who's deeply concerned for the welfare of others.
